Hospital Receives Donation for Chapel

Arkansas City, KS - South Central Kansas Medical Center (SCKMC) announced another generous gift for its "Building a Future of Excellence" program. The $10,000 gift was provided by the English Family and will be recognized by having the facility's chapel named English Family Chapel.

The gift is provided by Arkansas City resident Steven A. English as well as the children and grand children of Mr. English and wife, the late Janet R. English. This includes: son, Stephen A English Jr.; son Christopher M. English, his wife Tracey and their children Abby, Keely, Connor & Libby; daughter Kathleen E. Smith, her husband Richard W Smith III and their children Hailey, Reese & Landry. The family also includes Rotary International son Eduardo Contreiras, his wife Marcia and children Marina & Lucca. Janet English passed away in 2008 after battling breast cancer.

In making the announcement SCKMC CEO Steve Perkins said, "We are pleased and honored that the family would choose to support our efforts to build a future of excellence here."

In the fall of 2010, SCKMC launched its Building a Future of Excellence Financial Campaign that seeks gifts to help for capital equipment purposes as well as accepting funds to support programs.

"We launched the Building a Future of Excellence campaign in support of reaching our community vision. Not only with our structure, but in the programs and the way we deliver care and service to our patients, our whole focus is centered on EXCELLENCE," Perkins said.

Since the program began last year, over $60,000 in generous gifts have been made to SCKMC. The English Family Chapel is the fourth space within the facility dedicated by local families.
